Troubleshoot watch heart rate
Use this checklist when Kinni on Apple Watch or Wear OS does not show live heart rate, stays on Measuring, or says Permission needed.
Use this guide when Kinni on Apple Watch or Wear OS does not show live heart rate during setup or a phone-led run.
The watch is the live heart-rate source, but the phone remains the main Kinni control surface. Keep the watch paired to the same phone, worn on your wrist, unlocked if possible, and close to the phone while you test.
If the watch says Permission needed
Section titled “If the watch says Permission needed”Permission needed means Kinni cannot read the watch heart-rate sensor yet.
Apple Watch
Section titled “Apple Watch”- Open Kinni on iPhone.
- Go to Profile → Connected apps & devices → Apple Watch.
- Tap Allow Permissions.
- Allow the requested Apple Health access. If Kinni opens iPhone Settings, allow Health access for Kinni there, then return to Kinni.
- Reopen Kinni on Apple Watch.
Wear OS or Pixel Watch
Section titled “Wear OS or Pixel Watch”- Open Kinni on the watch.
- If the watch shows a permission prompt, allow the requested sensor access.
- If no prompt appears, open the watch’s app permissions for Kinni and allow the required sensor permissions.
- Reopen Kinni on the watch and then return to the Wear OS setup screen in Kinni on Android.
If the watch stays on Measuring
Section titled “If the watch stays on Measuring”Measuring… means Kinni is waiting for a live heart-rate reading.
- Keep the watch worn snugly and make sure the back sensor is touching your wrist.
- Keep the watch awake for a short time while the first reading arrives.
- Keep the phone nearby with Kinni open on the watch setup or run screen.
- If you just granted permissions, close and reopen Kinni on the watch once. This should not normally be required, but it can help recover from stale watch state on older builds.
If the phone still says setup is required
Section titled “If the phone still says setup is required”- Open Kinni on the watch so it can publish its latest status.
- On the phone setup screen, tap Refresh status if it is available.
- Confirm the setup rows for install, permissions, and opening the watch app are complete.
- If the phone says permissions are not granted but the watch says they are allowed, reopen Kinni on the watch and keep both devices nearby for a few seconds.
What to send support
Section titled “What to send support”If heart rate still does not appear, send support:
- your phone platform, Apple Watch or Wear OS watch model, and Kinni version;
- a screenshot of the Kinni watch screen, avoiding private health data where possible;
- a screenshot of the phone setup screen showing the checklist rows;
- whether the watch says Permission needed, Measuring…, or shows a live BPM.
