Connected apps overview

Use this overview before linking Strava or TrainingPeaks to Kinni.

Connected apps are account links that let Kinni send completed session files to an external training service. In the current Kinni app, this topic covers Strava and TrainingPeaks account linking.

Use this topic when you want to connect, confirm, reconnect, unlink, or manage auto-upload for Strava or TrainingPeaks. Session upload actions themselves live with your session history, so upload troubleshooting and FIT-file expectations are covered under Sessions and data.

  • Strava lets Kinni upload completed Kinni sessions to your Strava account as activities. During connection, Strava asks you to authorise profile access and activity upload access.
  • TrainingPeaks lets Kinni upload completed Kinni sessions to your TrainingPeaks account. During connection, TrainingPeaks asks you to authorise profile access and file-write access.

Kinni stores the linked athlete details on the device and uses the authorisation token when a session needs to upload. If the token expires, Kinni can refresh it when it next interacts with that service.

  1. Open Profile in Kinni.
  2. Open Connected apps & devices.
  3. Choose Strava or TrainingPeaks.

The connected-apps list shows whether each account is connected. The individual Strava or TrainingPeaks screen shows the linked profile, auto-upload setting, token status, and unlink action.

After you link Strava or TrainingPeaks, Kinni enables auto-upload for that service by default. You can turn auto-upload on or off from the linked-account screen.

Auto-upload applies to sessions Kinni records and stores locally. If a session did not upload, check the session’s upload action or sync status in the Sessions area rather than relinking the account first.

Connected apps are not live Bluetooth bridges. Use FitCast if another running app needs live treadmill, speed, cadence, or heart-rate data during a run.

Connected apps are also separate from Apple Health and Health Connect. Health-store import/export lives under Wearables and health, while Strava and TrainingPeaks account linking lives here.
